Essentials to Healthcare Mitosis

What is Mitosis Mitosis is the process in which the nucleolus of one cell divides into two nuclei It has 6 phases (interphase, early prophase, late prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase/cytokinesis)

Interphase Cells prepare to divide Cells DNA is being copied

Early prophase The nuclear membrane begins to break down. The chromosomes are condensed and consisting two sister chromatids. The spindle fibers appear

Late prophase The centromere joins each pair of chromatids The chromatids start to move to the end of the poles

Metaphase Chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell

Anaphase The spindle fibers separate the chromatids and pull them apart and then turn into individual chromosomes.

Telophase/Cytokinesis Spindle fibers disassemble and the nuclear envelope reforms and changes into the nuclear membrane two new cells form
