Participating in an Internet Project Judith Conway

WHAT IS IT? An educational activity that supports your curriculum and standards provides students with an opportunity to get a global (or larger) perspective or audience Provides students the opportunity to make a difference Uses the power of technology in an authentic way

EARTHDAY GROCERY BAGS Register, get materials Organize (divide classrooms, develop instructions for teachers and students, letter to parents) Get bags, distribute bags Research – discuss – read stories Decorate bags, collect bags, return bags to store Take pictures along the way, send report to project Make book for next year’s students showing them ‘how to’

WHY DO IT? It is interesting and fun It advances your curriculum and standards Hands – on Higher level thinking skills Authentic use of technology Larger audience motivates students 21st century skills

Share Your Music With Me A way to make the writing of music less overwhelming They learn to play what they have written A way to get feedback from other music people “This project was a way for me to combine my love of music with my passion for technology.  As a music teacher I always get "you don't need it" when I ask for new or leading edge tech equipment.  I was never a top priority when it came to computer budgets.  When iEARN came along it offered a chance to get a raise, have some fun and open a new door for my students.  For beginning students to write music is not an easy thing.  They do not have the music skills to always play what they hear in their minds.  By developing this project I was able to justify buying a music software program that made the process of writing music easier and less overwhelming.  Once students wrote the music it became lesson material for their classes.  The have to learn to play what they write.  The web site gave them a new hallway to show off their work.  Posting their music in a hallway would mean nothing to most teachers and students.  They don't have the skills to read it.  On the inter net we have been able to get feed back from other music people.  That has been very nice.  SO I guess this project brought  new areas of music for the students to explore and learn as well as a new avenue to share the skill they are developing.  All that and a great deal of fun all at the same time.” "HINTZ JOHN C" <HINTZJ@christina.k12.de.us>

One day when I . . . capture nature in the words of a child through personal stories Begin each story with the phrase "One day when I..." and end the story with what you learned, that frogs can jump really high, or how you felt, such as happy, surprised, or scared. The purpose of this activity is to capture nature in the words of a child through personal stories of lessons learned about empathy and compassion for creatures, places, and other natural phenomena in their worlds and invite educators and others to enjoy the inspiration generated when engaging in the storytelling activity. The "One Day When I" Story Circle as an on-line reciprocal storytelling activity recognizes the affiliation humans have for the natural world and allows the storyteller to draw on experience for learning lessons and sharing emotions.

HOW DO YOU DO IT? Find a project Register Get materials Get organized Do activities Submit report or projects See what others submitted Reflect on what you learned
