Integrated Multiplex Assay and Sampling System (IMASS™ ) Training Presentation

BBI Detection - IMASS Training 22/04/2013 BBI Detection IMASS Training Presentation IMASS DEVICES – INNOVATION IN HAND HELD BIOLOGICAL AND EXPLOSIVE SAMPLING AND DETECTION

The IMASS (Integrated Multiplex Assay and Sampling System) device is a fast, robust and easy-to-use solution for rapid identification, particularly in high pressure situations: Sample directly onto the device 8 assay sticks run simultaneously from a single sample Ergonomic patented design is easy to use even in PPE Device key points: Coloured lid for identification Up to 8 assay strips (with identifiers) Driving nut with nub Sponge frits Sampling sponge connected to assay strips

Each box* of IMASS Device contains: 10 devices per box 10 buffer bottles 10 aide memoires 1 instruction leaflet Weight and dimensions: Each device is 3oz, 5.5” x 1.6” x 1.6”. (85g, 14cm x 4cm x 4cm). Each box of 10 devices is 2.7 lbs, 10.2” x 8.3” x 7.1” (1.22kg, 26cm x 21cm x18cm). BBI *Custom packs may be available

BBI Detection - IMASS Training 22/04/2013 BBI Detection IMASS Training Presentation IMASS DEVICES – DEVELOPMENT SUMMARY

IMASS Devices were developed to solve problems with current detection systems such as; Multiple components - Swab, Buffer, Test Strip Difficult to handle when fully encumbered Increased risk of error Multiple assays to run Poor sampling Need to ensure all components available To fill a need for rapid identification of multiple potential materials from a single sample.

The Solution: An integrated sampling device that can be used to swab a surface and collect a sample, allowing immediate identification. A device that can incorporate up to 8 separate lateral flow diagnostic strips. Robust and can be used when wearing gloves. Self-contained, no added reagents or power source. Sample is retained for further testing or audit. No power requirement.

Dstl developed and patented the IMASS Concept -TRL 3. IMASS IP and antibodies were then licensed to BBI Detection through Ploughshare to allow commercial development. BBI Detection working in partnership with Dstl technical team refined designs and generated moulded prototypes. Prototypes evaluated by Dstl through agent and toxin testing and final modifications made to mould/strip design prior to scale up to routine manufacture. Biothreat IMASS Commercially launched in 2013 and Explosive Detection system development was initiated. Explosive Detection IMASS launched October 2015.

BBI Detection - IMASS Training 22/04/2013 BBI Detection IMASS Training Presentation IMASS DEVICES – HOW IT WORKS

Biothreat Detection IMASS Device contains tests to detect the following 8 biothreat agents:

Explosive Detection IMASS Device contains tests to detect the following 6 explosive or explosive pre-cusrors:

IMASS – How it works step by step (powder) Remove cap from buffer container Unscrew cap from IMASS device Add entire volume of buffer to IMASS sponge Sample powder (match head size amount) or surface Replace coloured cap and fully tighten Fully engage grey driving nut, then place device vertically on flat surface, cap down. Read tests after 15 minutes for Biothreat IMASS and 3 minutes for Explosive IMASS Sponge Compression

BBI Detection - IMASS Training 22/04/2013 BBI Detection IMASS Training Presentation IMASS DEVICES – KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS

IMASS Device Key Features Up to 8 assay strips run simultaneously from 1 sample Can sample surfaces, solids and liquids Results in 3 to 15 minutes Highly specific and highly sensitive tests Easy to use in high pressure situations Easy to understand results Low amount of training required – can be used by non-specialists No power requirement

IMASS Device Key Benefits Increased sampling area Ideal format for end users forced to make on the spot decisions Rugged No sample preparation required Easily portable Sponge/frit design ensures filtration of large particles from sample Can be decontaminated after sampling Sample retained for confirmatory lab analysis

IMASS Training and Training Devices Specially designed training IMASS™ devices can be supplied for user training/assessments. These devices enable the instructor to demonstrate the correct use of the device in a training environment, and also to assess the user’s ability to utilise the device.
