2017 “Throwback” Paint SchemE Celebrating Shell & Pennzoil Joining Forces The 2017 Throwback celebrates Shell’s acquisition of Pennzoil in 2002. Prior to then, both brands had been heavily involved in motorsports with their respective products. 2002 marked the moment in time when Shell was able to bring its global technology resources to support Pennzoil’s research and development. Today, Shell scientists work with Penske engineers to develop customized lubricants and greases for use in Team Penske Fords in NASCAR and use “off the shelf” Pennzoil Ultra Platinum with PurePlus Technology in all Team Penske Chevy IndyCar race cars. Together, we consider the race track our laboratory to perfect our products and deliver the most advanced, highest quality fuels and lubricants to our customers.
