Time of Jehoshaphat: 2 Chron. 20:12,17,24 Time of Hezekiah: 2 Kings 19:14-19,20,35 Both were occasions of great fear in the hearts of the people as an enemy was on their doorstep ready to destroy them! In Psalm 46 the psalmist speaks of a faith which surmounts any threats of cataclysmic upheaval.
Ps 46:1 ~ God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Because of the person of God Because of the protection of God Because of the presence of God
When God is our refuge … We can be free from fear, v. 2,3 We can be immovable, v. 4-7 V. 4 ~ There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.

When God is our refuge … We shall be victorious, v. 8-9 Come, behold the works of the Lord, Who has made desolations in the earth. He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two; He burns the chariot in the fire. V. 10 ~ … I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.
How can we make God our refuge? Ps 46:10 ~ Be still, and know that I am God… A rebuke to a restless and turbulent world. Lay down your arms, surrender and acknowledge God! “let the hands hang down” God is still God. God is still in control.
