Presentation transcript:

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

Time of Jehoshaphat: 2 Chron. 20:12,17,24 Time of Hezekiah: 2 Kings 19:14-19,20,35 Both were occasions of great fear in the hearts of the people as an enemy was on their doorstep ready to destroy them! In Psalm 46 the psalmist speaks of a faith which surmounts any threats of cataclysmic upheaval.

Ps 46:1 ~ God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Because of the person of God Because of the protection of God Because of the presence of God

When God is our refuge … We can be free from fear, v. 2,3 We can be immovable, v. 4-7 V. 4 ~ There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.

When God is our refuge … We can be free from fear, v. 2,3 We can be immovable, v. 4-7 V. 5 ~ God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.

When God is our refuge … We can be free from fear, v. 2,3 We can be immovable, v. 4-7 V. 6,7 ~ The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved; He uttered His voice, the earth melted. The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge.

When God is our refuge … We shall be victorious, v. 8-9 Come, behold the works of the Lord, Who has made desolations in the earth. He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two; He burns the chariot in the fire. V. 10 ~ … I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.

How can we make God our refuge? Ps 46:10 ~ Be still, and know that I am God… A rebuke to a restless and turbulent world. Lay down your arms, surrender and acknowledge God! “let the hands hang down” God is still God. God is still in control.

The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. ~ Psalm 46:11
