Space History / Geography Science – Healthy History of Space Neil Armstrong Environmental differences Moon/Space and our planet The Sun and planets The future Space Science – Healthy Everyday materials (1EM) distinguish between an object and the material from which it is made identify and name a variety of everyday materials, including wood, plastic, glass, metal, water, and rock describe the simple physical properties of a variety of everyday materials compare and group together a variety of everyday materials on the basis of their simple physical properties English –Through non-fiction, fiction and poetry Stories from fantasy worlds Poems on a Theme –Space Non Chronological report, list, labels and captions Instructions/Recipes – healthy space food Labelling rockets, information about rockets Writing lists, signs and posters Descriptive language – space poems Postcards from the sun 1 Use some clearly identifiable letters to communicate meaning, representing some sounds correctly and in sequence [Wr] 2 Write own name and other things such as labels and captions [Wr] 3 Attempt to write short sentences in meaningful contexts [Wr] 4 Understand the role of the question mark in punctuation, and form question marks correctly in their own work. 5 Continue a rhyming string [R] Segment the sounds in simple words and blend them together and know which letters represent some of them [R] 6 Use the word ‘because’ in simple explanation, along with ‘and’ to join simple sentences. 7 Spelling & phonics Grapheme and phoneme correspondances covering phases 2, 3, 4 and 5. In addition, children will learn to spell the Year 1 common Exception words. 8 Reading – Children will learn to use their phonic knowledge to decode, focus on comprehension and inference. 9 Learn to edit and correct their work.
