Lesser Gods

Introduction Greeks and Romans had gods for almost everything The gods we talk about today are not as famous and were not as powerful as the 12 Olympians

Cupid (Eros) God of Love Beautiful, serious youth that gave gifts to man Often represented as blindfolded because love is supposed to be blind Always had three people around him Anteros-God of Slighted Love Himeros-God of Longing Hymen-God of the Wedding Feast

Hebe Goddess of Youth Cupbearer to the gods

Iris Goddess of Rainbows Another messenger of the gods

Others Proteus-Posideon’s son that could see the future and shapeshift Naids-water nymphs that dwelt in small bodies of water Charon-takes the souls of the dead across the River Styx to Hades Cerebrus-dragon tailed dog that guarded the underworld

Others Rhadmanthus, Minos, and Aeacus-three judges who pass judgement on the souls of the dead Furies-Things in the underworld that punish the wicked Sleep-God that gave men dreams as they slept Death-God that decided when your time on earth was at an end
