Cilia Function: Moves substances over the surface of cells. Location: around the cell’s body Found: W. Sharpey in 1835 found that cilia and flagella are active organelles Affect on the body:Protects the nasal passageways and filters out dust and other particles that enter the nose with breathed air.

Flagella Function: Much bigger than cilia and propel sperm cells Location: in the cytoplasm Found: W. Sharpey in 1835 found that cilia and flagella are active organelles

Microvilli Function: Increase the surface area of cells and aid in absorption and secretion Location: the cell membrane Found: Although the primary cilium was discovered in 1898, it was largely ignored.
