Problem Ms. Knierim wants to have a pizza party for all 5 of her classes, but she wants to know the cost firsts. Figure out how much it would cost with the following information. 1 pizza is $5.00 1 class averages 26 students 8 slices in 1 pizza 1 student gets 2 pieces of pizza

Conversions Step 1: Read the problem and identify the “known” Step 2: Determine “conversion factors” needed 1000 mL = 1 L 2.54 cm = 1 inch

Solving Conversion Problems Step 3: Start with “known” Step 4: Make sure units cancel by having them on opposite sides of the fraction bar Step 5: Multiply everything on top of fraction bar Step 6: Divide by everything on bottom of fraction bar

Your Answer for Conversion Problems Make sure to include units please! If units are forgotten, ½ point off Make sure there are the correct number of significant digits Look at the number you started with, how many sig figs does it have?

Example 1: Express the weight of a 140 lb Great Dane Dog in kg. 1000 g = 1 kg

Example 2: What is the distance of a 5 km race in mm? 1 km = 1000 m 1 m = 1000 mm

Example 3: How many meters are in a yard? 100 cm = 1 m 3 ft = 1 yard 2.54 cm = 1 inch 12 inch = 1 ft

Which product is the most expensive per 1 mL? Compete in teams of two or three. Must show all work. Not a race… points are based on correct answers!

Order from most expensive (#1) to least expensive for cost of 1 mL!

16 oz of Lipton tea for $0.69 Step 1: Convert to mL Step 2: Figure out how much 1 mL will cost

2.6 oz of deodorant for $4.88 Step 1: Convert to mL Step 2: Figure out how much 1 mL will cost

1 gallon of milk is $3.54 Step 1: Convert to mL Step 2: Figure out how much 1 mL will cost

12 oz of Mr. Bubble is $3.29 Step 1: Convert to mL Step 2: Figure out how much 1 mL will cost

1.5 quart is $4.65 Step 1: Convert to mL Step 2: Figure out how much 1 mL will cost
