What you will learn today: Plato’s background. Some of Plato’s main ideas. Plato’s story of the cave.

This is the idea of a tree - Plato says we cannot see this These trees, that we can see, Plato says are just ‘forms’ of the tree that exists in another realm.

READ THE ALLEGORY OF THE CAVE

Dualistic Understanding of the Body. As we looked at earlier, Plato distrusted the senses and the knowledge that we get from them he saw the person as deeply divided. Plato saw the body and soul inconflict with eachother. He felt that the body imprisoned the soul. This is known as a dualistic understanding of the human person.
