Presentation transcript:

Lord of the Flies “They knew very well why he hadn't: because of the enormity of the knife descending and cutting into living flesh; because of the unbearable blood.”

Lord of the Flies Shows that they other boys are understanding of why he hadn’t and creates a comparison of how they were acting nearer the start of the novel compared to the end. This shows how jack was still innocent. Although he pretends to be brave, he still couldn’t kill a living thing no matter how much he boasts. Graphic imagery: describing the action of him killing the pig. “They knew very well why he hadn't: because of the enormity of the knife descending and cutting into living flesh; because of the unbearable blood.” The whole quote could show jacks transition from civilisation to savagery. The use of the word “unbearable” shows the boys’ innocence at this point in the story because they can’t bear the sight of blood which could be due to the fact that they haven’t had any experience with the situation that they’re in. It also highlights their feelings towards the matter.

Blood Brothers Edward (awed ) ‘Pissed off. You say smashing things don’t you? Do you know any more words like that?

Blood Brothers Shows his innocence compared to mickey and how differently they have been brought up. “Nature vs. Nurture” Edward is new to mickeys language. Shows how naïve he is. Edward (awed ) ‘Pissed off. You say smashing things don’t you? Do you know any more words like that?‘ Edward wants to learn to be like mickey. Edward has more mature dialect compared to mickey which shows how their upbringings have been varied. Shows the difference in their upbringings Edward could be beginning to see mickey as a role model because of how different their personalities are. Mickey and Edward like each other a lot which could be because of how different they are and also may be because mickey is happy to be friends with a new person rather than his siblings.
