Professional Development 2010 Peer Coaching in STEM (or METS) Areas
Where did the idea come from…. ILT met in June, where we were given professional development on several different School-Based PD models.
…and a lot of Data. From the data we selected areas to target. For example:
What % of staff differentiate instruction to meet the student’s learning needs and address learning styles 80% + 50-79% 25-49% 0-24% Don’t know 37% 58% 0% 5%
What % integrate technology to enhance instruction? 80% + 50-79% 25-49% 0-24% Don’t know 26% 68% 5%
What % of staff engages students through peer learning opportunities. 80% + 50-79% 25-49% 0-24% Don’t know 16% 42% 26% 5% 11%
% of staff that demonstrate high expectations for students 80% + 50-79% 25-49% 0-24% Don’t know 53% 47%
Based on the data… Teachers need to design and implement engaging lesson plans on a daily basis.
How will our METS professional development plan accomplish this goal? Teachers will engage in a 3 pronged approach to professional development for the 2010-2011 school year….cross curricular style… Peer Coaching Reflective Practice Lesson Study
Peer Coaching Small teams of colleagues plan together, model for each other, observe each other, and provide feedback.
How will Peer Coaching work at P-Tap Teachers will be randomly placed in groups of 6. Teachers will complete 4 walkthrough observations per cycle (5-10min) and complete a feedback form. Submit feedback forms to DC for data collection
Benefits of this approach By the end of the cycles (Jan.) teachers will have a ton of feedback on what instruction looks like in their classroom +/-. 2nd half of the year will be the application of what we learn in a lesson study.
