Mrs Touch Sout used to dislike Christians. Her daughter Srey was one, but Srey’s arm was still paralysed, and she still couldn’t help around the house, even if she did believe in Jesus. Notes to leader: Mrs Touch Sout is 77 years old. She lives with her daughter, Srey Roth, in Tonle Batie village.
Then Srey started going to an UMOJA group Then Srey started going to an UMOJA group. She was taught new skills and ways to make money so she could help her family. She grew in confidence and began planting crops, raising chickens, and teaching young children these skills too. Notes to leader: Umoja, which in Swahili means ‘unity’ or ‘togetherness’, is a powerful tool with Biblical foundations that gives the church a vision for their community and engages the whole community in their own development. Through Umoja, ICC seeks to enthuse and empower the local church in her role to serve her community and together with them, to identify and address their needs with their own resources.
Mrs Sout noticed the change in Srey, as well as the extra income. She realised that the church and the Umoja group had changed both of their lives for the better.
