Golgi Body

Golgi Body

Lysosome A sac (bubble) of really nasty acids and enzymes that the cell uses as a garbage dump. It is found in Animal cells.

Lysosome

What chemical do you think is broken down in this organelle? Mitochondria This is where all of the energy is created. It is the Power Plant of the cell. It is found in both Animal & Plant cells. What chemical do you think is broken down in this organelle?

Mitochondria

Mitochondria

Plasma Membrane The outer layer of the cell. Much like the skin of a soap bubble (only tougher). It controls how things enter & leave the cell. This is the import/export & security company of the cell. It is found in both animal & plant cells.

1 Cilia & Flagella Cilia are hair-like. Flagella are long tails. Both are used as tools for movement. These are only found in Animal cells.

Flagella Cilia

1 Cell Wall This is a rigid layer that surrounds the cells of a Plant. It would be similar to the Great Wall of China. It prevents the cells from taking in too much water. It protects the cell. In addition, it provides the strength to hold the plant up against gravity.

Cell Wall

1 Vacuole This is the large central sac in the middle of a Plant cell. The cell uses it to store large amounts of water among other things. When the vacuole is full of water the plant is turgid (stiff). When it is not, the plant is flaccid (limp).

Chloroplast These contain the green pigment Chlorophyll that allows Plants to and create sugar from the Sun’s energy through Photosynthesis.
