Good Morning Today is Friday, May 8, 2015 Activity Science Bell work Fill out your Status of the Class NONFICTION Start page Math Packet 1-18 Work on Weathering and Erosion PCR What relationship does the weathering and erosion have on Earth’s changing surface share? How is the Earth’s surface worn down and built up? What forces change the Earth’s surface? Enjoy your nonfiction book This Day in History 1541 De Soto reaches the Mississippi River On May 8, 1541, south of present-day Memphis, Tennessee, Spanish conquistador Hernando de Soto reaches the Mississippi River, one of the first European explorers to ever do so. After building flatboats, de Soto and his 400 ragged troops crossed the great river under the cover of night, in order to avoid the armed Native Americans who patrolled the river daily in war canoes. From there the conquistadors headed into present-day Arkansas, continuing their fruitless two-year-old search for gold and silver in the American wilderness. Did you know… ostriches don't bury their heads in sand only female mosquitoes bite

Morning Meeting - Christian Today is May 8, 2015. We go to Science today for Activity . You have 30 seconds to greet one another around your desk. Important dates and information: Science MCT2 MONDAY 01 more school days left Choose 3 people to share about something. After they have shared, choose 2 people to respond to the person sharing. Day 4 You have read two really great articles about the food web and ecosystems! Today, we are going to see how well you can do reading a diagram! You will have a food web diagram and questions to complete as a group. Read the diagram and answer the questions. It’s all about answering questions from different sources. You could have them do groups for the diagram. Each group will have a different think it through discussion question. After the time is up, have each group reflect on their answers and their discussion question. There are 6 different discussion questions so you can have 6 small groups.

What type of ecosystem is this? What will happen to this food web if the sharks are all destroyed? Justify your answer! The answer is the Sea turtle will increase because there will be no predator. Let them think about this and discuss it though and then if they don’t figure it out, you can help guide them.

Create small groups-you have 6 different discussion questions so you can have six groups.

Reflect and Share: Answer key to group questions Worm Three Two Owl, fox, snake, eagle, cougar Any two of the following: owl, fox, eagle, cougar Grasshopper, rabbit, bird, mouse, squirrel, butterfly

Group Discussion Answers Have groups discuss their findings Group 1-Plants, because without the plants, the primary consumers would have nothing to eat and they will die, which will negatively impact all the other consumers above. Group 2-Owl, because it is the predator of many organisms while the eagle is only the predator of one. Group 3- Cougar, because it is the predator of many organisms while the eagle is only the predator of one. Group 4- Worm, because the worm is a decomposer and without decomposers, the waste could never be recycled back into the food web, leading to the web’s eventual collapse Group 5-Either because the removal of either one would have the same impact because they eat the same food and are preyed upon by the same predators. Group 6-Snake, because in this food web the snake’s only food source is the frog. The snake would starve. The owl and fox also eat the frog but they have other food sources if the frog disappears. **Let them have plenty of time to discuss and try to figure it out!
