Presentation transcript:

Photosynthesis

What is photosynthesis? The process of turning solar energy (sunlight) into chemical energy.

Where does photosynthesis happen? Inside plants, in an organelle called a chloroplast.

What do plants need for photosynthesis? Sunlight Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Water (H20) These are called the reactants.

Plants take in water and carbon dioxide through little openings called stomata.

Stomata are usually closed more during the day and open more at night.

What do plants make from photosynthesis? Oxygen (O2) Glucose (Sugar) These are called the products.

The chemical formula for glucose is

Photosynthesis Equation

Photosynthesis is essential for ALL LIFE ON EARTH, because it makes food and oxygen.
