Design Thinking: A New Way to Ideate So You Want To Design Design Thinking: A New Way to Ideate

Learning Goals: Understand what Design Thinking Is Learn/Review the steps to the process. Play Discuss

Design Thinking is not just a process… It is a mindset. It is a cultural shift. It is a reality for 21st century learners.

The Steps Launch Empathize Focus Brainstorm/ Ideate Prototype & Test Reflect Iterate Phase I Phase II Phase 3 Launch– 1 Day Ideate 1-3 Days Reflect- 1-3 Days Empathize- Continuously Prototype- TBD Iterate- TBD Focus- 1 Day Test- TBD

Individual Steps Do What Now?

The Launch phase is capturing attention and building excitement for the PBL or TBL Caption

Begin with, “How might we” Empathy Begin with your third ear, listen with your heart, and get rid of what you thought you knew. Begin with, “How might we” “Yes and “

Focus During the Focus phase, narrow the scope of what you will tackle. This doesn’t have to be 1 Task Based Learning assignment or one Project Based Learning assignment for all, just not 50.

Ideate There is no one way to ideate and brainstorm. You can just play, make lists, take photos etc. Traditional brainstorming= Lists Bubble Maps Think- Pair- Share Modern brainstorming= Meaningful Play with reflection Completing challenges in learning Combining Traditional methods and modern madness

Prototype Test, test, test Build your idea. Use everyday materials Repurpose often Be creative Test, test, test

Reflect & Iterate Now implement the changes and start anew! Consider this…. What went well? What went wrong? What can I improve How am I better as a result? Now implement the changes and start anew!
