Decision Required The purpose of the presentation is to seek approval to move [Project Name] through: Gate 2 – Approach Review issues: Validation of the wisdom and feasibility of the proposed approach to the project For projects requiring capital funding, this presentation would be given twice: once to departmental decision-makers and then again to the Business Advisory Committee for funding consideration.

Business Needs and Outcomes Summarize what was presented for the previous gate Add slides from the earlier presentations if you want to update or reinforce some section

Evaluation Criteria Define the evaluation criteria that will be used for screening and analysis of the options and will ultimately determine an overall recommendation.

Possible Options Include all options, indicating whether they are viable or not Include the status quo

Viable Option Analysis Go through each viable option (usually one option per slide) and discuss the pros/cons, cost/benefit, total cost of ownership, policy considerations, risk, etc…

Comparison Summary Present the viable options (including the status quo option used as the baseline) and compare them against a standardized set of criteria (financial and non-financial). It may be preferable to organize the comparison in a table format.

Preferred Option Describe your recommended best option Include deciding factors Address any risks, cons and assumptions brought up earlier

Estimates to Next Gate Describe the work that needs to be done before the next decision gate (typically, Gate 3 – Business Case) This might include consultancy fees, Request for Information (RFI) or Request for Quote (RFQ) Estimate (+/- 10%) Cost $ Staff Effort hours Duration weeks

Key Decision for Gate 2 – Approach Is the approach taken wise and feasible? Will the approach attain the outcomes? Is the approach aligned with strategy and policy? Will be result of approach be sustainable? Decision Point: Proceed to next gate? Come back with changes? Defer indefinitely?
