Using Scientific words Um….and stuff
In science classes… It is often (and by that I mean ALL THE TIME!!) a good idea to use “scientific” words when answering questions in class and in lab What do we mean by “scientific” words??
Take a look at this pic…
And now this one…
What do you notice? What is different about Gustav as a hurricane? In other words, how is it different from a tropical storm? Write down something!
OK now look at this one… 1973 2003
What do you notice? Write something else down (try to make it scientific!!
What am I trying to get at? USE SCIENTIFIC WORDS!! Don’t say “it’s bigger”….say “It has increased in size” Don’t say “it shrank” or “it’s smaller now”…say “It has decreased in size” Don’t say “It got more hot, yo”…say “The temperature has increased” Don’t say “It’s mad colder”….say “The temperature has decreased because the molecules within the substance have decreased their movement substantially…” OK…maybe not…but try your best this year!
Observations Any information collected with the senses. The skill of describing scientific events
Inferences Conclusions or deductions based on observations . The process of drawing a conclusion from given evidence
