Email Email software- A network application to send and receive email messages. You need: Email account Unique email address ex. zach@address.org
Organizing Folders Folders in email are organized in a similar way to the files on your computer. Note: Gmail uses “labels” instead of folders.
Inbox- Holds the emails you receive. Often the default folder. Common Folders Inbox- Holds the emails you receive. Often the default folder.
Common Folders Sent Mail- Once a message has been sent, it is stored in the Sent Mail folder.
Common Folders Drafts- Email messages are saved in the drafts folder until they are sent. If you need to stop writing in the middle of a message, you can always find it later in the drafts folder.
Common Folders Archive- Archiving an email gets the message out of your inbox folder, but saves the email message so that you can always find it later. Before revealing, ask students if they know the difference between trash and archive. Trash- Putting a message in the trash folder gets the message ready to be deleted. Messages in the trash folder remain there for a limited number of days before the system deletes them forever.
Sending an Email In addition to composing and sending an email from scratch, you can also: Reply- Replying to an email allows you to compose a response to an email message. Forward- Forwarding an email sends the same email you just read to a new recipient.
An attachment is a file that is sent along with an email message. Attachments An attachment is a file that is sent along with an email message. An attachment can be sent to one person, or many people at one time. You can send all sorts of files, graphics, documents, programs, etc. Before revealing, as students if that could be sent as attachments.
Cc and Bcc Carbon copy is used when you want to send an email to someone, and send the exact same copy of the email to one or more other people. Blind carbon copy the only email address that is visible to all the recipients is the one in the to:field. Ask students if they can come up with some examples of situations where Cc and Bcc might be useful.
Also called a Contact list. Address Book Also called a Contact list. Save and look up people’s names, email addresses, and other contact information. You don’t have to remember everyone’s email addresses. Makes sure you don’t miss emails from senders in your contact list.
