Structure and Fxn of epididymis, vas deferens, and urethra MT: Male Reproductive System

Structure of Epididymis Single, tightly coiled tube ~ 20 feet in length! Has head, body, and tail section Connects seminiferous tubules to vas deferens

Fxn of Epididymis Duct in which sperm travels through Stores spermatozoa while they mature Secretes a small amount of seminal fluid (semen)

Structure of Vas Deferens Tube that has thick muscular walls Can be felt in the scrotum as a movable cord Has 3 layers of muscle

Fxn of Vas Deferens Muscles inside vas deferens contract to propel sperm

Structure of Urethra Small tube lined with mucous ~ 8 inches Starts at urinary bladder, then passes through the prostate gland, joins with two ejaculatory ducts, and goes down center of penis

Fxn of Urethra Excrete urine from the urinary bladder Expel semen Can semen and urine exit the penis at the same time? See page 828 for the answer.
