Mr. Danny Griffin Boston College Professor of History Mysteries Around the World Mr. Danny Griffin Boston College Professor of History My name is Danny Griffin and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to share with you a multidisciplinary lesson plan that I developed for my students at Boston College in Massachusetts. The history department at BC is one of the most prestigious graduate schools in the Northeast region of the United States.

Overview Multimedia Web Site Example Introduction Procedures Internet Sources In this lesson, students have an opportunity to practice their research skills, while discovering facts and theories about the mysteries of many fascinating locations around the world. In order to share their learning with others, they also create various products, such as a PowerPoint presentation or newsletter, using Microsoft Office 2003.

Multimedia Objectives Identify and list 5 facts about a chosen site Identify and state the mystery (mysteries) associated with the chosen site Use at least 3 sources of references Use technology to create products that reflect research and learning The specific Objectives or Learning Outcomes in this lesson include Multimedia Presentation Objectives, Publishing Objectives, and Web Page Objectives. For example, there are five specific Multimedia Presentation Objectives: (1) Students must identify and list five facts about a mysterious site that they have chosen to investigate; (2) they must identify and state the mystery (ies) involved with the site they have chosen; (3) they must use at least three different reference sources and correctly cite the references; (4) they must demonstrate experience in using technology, including Microsoft Office 2003, in creating newsletters and other products

Web Page Objectives Create a 5-page Web Page to share learning with others Include at least two hyperlinks to others sites Create a homepage Develop a vocabulary page related | to the site For the Web Pages objectives, students must create five web pages to share their learning with others, and include at least two hyperlinks to other sites. They must also create a Home Page that states the mystery of their location studied, and their opinion about they mystery of their location. They must include factual information to support their opinion and beliefs.

Example Stonehenge: The Mysterious Stones Where did this structure in England come from? I begin this lesson plan by introducing mysterious places through a PowerPoint presentation on Stonehenge.

Procedures Discuss the five guidelines below for “How to Organize a Research Project.” Decide on a Topic Gather Your Resources Take Notes Write the Rough Draft Prepare the Final Copy I then distribute guidelines on How to Organize Research Projects and discuss these guidelines in small groups. I have the whole group create a chart to help them organize their research.

Internet Resources Some of the Internet resources that I have found useful are listed here on this slide.
