Bell Work: Frankenstein begins with letters written from explorer Robert Walton to his sister in England. In the late 1700s, mail service might take months for a letter to be delivered from one country to another. Imagine you are leaving to explore an unknown territory…a place you’ve never been…maybe undersea, outer space, a region of the earth where no one has been before. Write a message telling your thoughts about this new adventure. To whom do you write the message? Where are you going? What fears or hopes do you have? (3/4 page)

Literary Terms on Tuesdays In your Literary Terms Glossary packet, write down the following definitions. Write the whole definitions.

Lit. Term Tuesday 115. exposition – lays the groundwork for the plot and provides the reader with essential background information. Characters are introduced, the setting is described, and the major conflict is identified. Although the exposition generally appears at the opening of a work, it may also occur later in the narrative.

Lit. Term Tuesday 53. climax - the high point of interest of suspense in a literary work. It is usually the crisis in the plot, the point at which the protagonist changes his or her understanding of the situation. Sometimes the climax coincides with the resolution, the point at which the central conflict is resolved.
