Mesoamerica Vocab

Beringia: land bridge that once connected North America and Asia.

Glyph: a symbolic picture – especially one used as part of a writing system for carving messages in stone. Codex: Mayan record keeping book made out of bark-paper. Obsidian: Green or black volcanic glass used to make razor sharp weapons.

Quipu: A set of knotted strings that could be used to record data. Ayllu: Extended family group in the Incan civilization. Quechua: Official language imposed by the Incan civilization. Mita: A labor tribute in the Incan civilization that required all able-bodied citizens to work for the state a certain number of days each year.
