Possible Windows 8 Improvements By: Scott Hill

Improve Windows 8 Split Screen Mode The only options for split screen mode currently is to have one screen take up the majority of the screen and the other takes up a little

Improve Windows 8 Split Screen Mode People might use split screen mode more often and effectively if they had the option to have each screen take up have of the total screen area This could also allow people to use the desktop like the desktop is suppose to be use. Currently if the desktop is on the 1/3 side of the screen it doesn't function well

Customizability and Settings Windows 8 has some customizability, but it is limited in what you can do

Customizability and Settings Many people were upset that Windows 8 doesnt offer an option to have a start button. I dont think this is too much of a problem since if you move your mouse to the same location a start button appears, but I think that if you are in an app that a mini version of the start screen should pop up so you are still able to see what your doing and go right back to it. Start

Customizability and Settings Cut Sort By Copy Paste View New Personalize Copy Sometimes when right clicking in touch mode it is possible to touch the screen again and do something that wasnt intended. Having a pop out menu like this could also make it easier to select items in the menu with touch

Customizability and Settings – Tiles The Windows 8 tiles are definitely better for touch, but theres a few issues with them. A few problems that I see are that they can take up a lot of space even when they are minimized, especially when using a mouse. Also after awhile you get tried of looking at all those squares and rectangles.

Customizability and Settings – Tiles I think that allowing users to change the size of the tiles to their liking would allow people to use them more effectively.

Customizability and Settings – Tiles If their was a grid system allowing three different sizes I think it would allow better customizability. Allowing users to pick different shapes would probably make them happy. All those straight lines and blocks can be annoying to look at. Also their should be an option to group together apps into folder tiles so that your start screen doesnt become clustered and so you dont have to search for what your looking for in all the apps

More Grid and Shape Ideas – Tiles Add random, smoothed, and faded edge options

More Grid and Shape Ideas – Tiles

Possible Challenges with Purposed Changes Icons not fitting in the new shapes Getting Apps to work in half split screen mode Figuring out the coding to add the options

Summary Add more split screen modes Add half screen start menu Add option for alternative right click menu Add Tile Customizations More start screen backgrounds options and customizations Improve desktop mode for touch Add more advanced settings In depth tutorial of features available More functionality between Windows 8 programs the new features.
