Transformation Notes 6.07
Transformations Movements of figures on a coordinate plane
Transformations Three movements that preserve congruency Translations Reflections Rotations
Transformations The original figure is called the preimage and the transformed figure is called the image Use prime notation to identify the image
Translation A “slide” of a figure horizontally or vertically Needs direction and measure Ex) 5 units to the right and 2 units down mapping = (x + h, y + k)
Reflection A “flip” over a line on the graph The line of reflection can be any possible line We focused on over the x-axis or over the y-axis mapping = (-x, y) OR (x, -y)
Rotation A “turn” around any point on the graph Needs direction and measure 90ᵒ, 180ᵒ, 270ᵒ Clockwise or counter-clockwise
Rotation Steps: 1) Determine the measure and direction of the turn Draw the guide arrow 2) Color in the point of rotation 3) Write the slope directions to get from the point of rotation to each vertex 4) Turn your paper to get the guide arrow into the correct position 5) Use the slope directions to plot the points for the image and connect them
