Integrating Quotations: *** Never let a quotation stand alone *** You must integrate quotations into your own writing ,adding an introduction or commentary. Stand Alone: X Rahim Khan believes in redemption. “There is a way to be good again” (2). Integrated: Rahim Khan explains to Amir, “There is a way to be good again” (2).

Specific Strategies for Using Quotations: 1. Use a comma: Rahim Khan says, “Children aren’t colouring books. You don’t get to fill them with your favourite colours” (23 ). “Children aren’t colouring books,” Rahim Khan explains to Baba (23). 2. Use a colon: Rahim Khan explains to Baba that children are not colouring books: “You don’t get to fill them with your favourite colour” (23).

General Rules for Using Quotations: Quote only essential words and ideas. Your voice and arguments should dominate your essay. Use block quotations sparingly, if ever. Analyze each quotation fully
