Presentation transcript:

In late 1200’s the Aztecs migrated into the Valley of Mexico. Had one emperor that ruled all.

This allowed them to grow crops such as corn, squash, and beans. Known for building chinampas. Artificial islands made of dirt and piled on reed mats that were anchored on a shallow lake bed. This allowed them to grow crops such as corn, squash, and beans.

Earliest American Civilizations were the Olmec Earliest American Civilizations were the Olmec. They settled around the Mexican Gulf Coast.

Through rich tombs and temples we know that priests and aristocrats stood at the top of Olmec society. Each village had their own king.

The Olmecs had great influence throughout the area. Magnificent structures and stones. Invented a calendar

The Mayas were another great Indian tribe that was influenced by the Olmecs. Unique Mayan farming methods allowed them to flourish throughout much of Central America.

Mayan farmers cleared forests, build and raised fields to hold rain, built drainage ditches. They were able to produce enough maize, or corn, to feed their rapidly growing civilization.

Inca tribes developed from Pachcuti he claimed absolute power, but established a chain of command for every Incan village.

Created one of the greatest road systems in history. Over 12,000 miles through mountain and desert. Bridges and tunnels
