Spring Critical Thinking Institute Thursday, March 30 & Friday, April 1 EpiCenter Keynote Presenter: Dr. Johnny Good, Professor Emeritus at Beacon College Panel Discussion? Session by Faculty Champions: “Walk-Through of the Instructional Portfolios”? http://www.spcollege.edu/Central/OSSD/presenters.htm Dr. Johnny Good is Professor Emeritus at Beacon College, where he has served as Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness and Outreach Programs. He also served as the Director of the Beacon College Quality Enhancement Plan, “Enhancing Critical Thinking for Students with Learning Disabilities.” Dr. Good is passionate about the idea that learning a discipline or subject matter is important, but is not all there is to being educated. He believes students with learning disabilities must learn to think critically in order to function and succeed in today’s complex society. As an adult with a learning disability, Dr. Good has a unique perspective of the difficulties students with learning disabilities face in their pursuit of a quality education and the role that using good critical thinking skills play in reaching one’s educational goals and potential in life. Dr. Good received his Ed.D. degree from Texas A & M University in Secondary and Higher Education. He is a frequent presenter at conferences and high schools, telling his life story of how he was told he could never attend college and how he used “secret” study strategies to attain success in college, rising from a janitor position to becoming a college vice president. His strategies for success have inspired students with learning disabilities across the nation to never give up on themselves, and to work hard to attain their educational goals and fulfill their potential. The presenter will provide practical instructional strategies for improving student learning through the development of good critical thinking skills both inside and outside the classroom. Attendees will gain an understanding of the affect that having a learning disability has on the acquisition of critical thinking skills through findings from the Beacon College Quality Enhancement Plan, “Enhancing Critical Thinking for Students with Learning Disabilities.” The importance of modeling good critical thinking for students will also be discussed.

Have a Wonderful Holiday!
