Biography Twyla Tharp was in Portland, Indiana on July 1, 1941 In 1951, she began taking dance lessons at the Vera Lynn School of Dance

Biography (cont.) In 1963, graduated from Barnard College and debuted as a professional dancer with the Paul Taylor Dance Company By the age of 23 she started her own dance company, the Twyla Tharp Dance Company

Style and Fun Facts Ms. Tharp has choreographed more than one hundred sixty works: one hundred twenty-nine dances, twelve television specials, six Hollywood movies, four full- length ballets, four Broadway shows and two figure skating routines Her style combines different forms of movement- jazz, ballet, boxing, and inventions of her own
