La Calaca Human Skeleton

“Las calacas” are a traditional Día de los Muertos decoration.

The skeletons are depicted doing every-day activities. They are happy, colorful, and festive.

This is because Mexicans perceive death differently than Americans do. It is believed that the afterlife is more fun and that life on Earth is harder.

“La calaca” assignment You will cut out a skeleton and glue it together on a piece of construction paper. Write your name and class section on the bottom right hand corner. (3pts) Label the parts of the skeleton with the TEN vocabulary terms we used in class in Spanish (head, foot, arm, stomach, mouth, ear, eye, nose, finger, and hand) and write “LA CALACA” at the top. (10pts) Your calaca must be colorful and festive. Feel free to add details such as a guitar or food. (5 pts) You stayed focused and worked diligently. (2pts) TOTAL POINTS: 20
