White Abalone By: Danial Ali

Some Facts About White Abalone White Abalone are sea snails (incase you didn’t know) White abalone shells are used to make jewellery Many people like to eat white abalone, they say that it tastes amazing… It is only found in California, USA

Why are white abalone going extinct? White abalone are going extinct due to overfishing. They were actually reported low in population since the mid 1990s. What happens to them once they’re fished out? Their shells are used to make jewellery and their meat can be cooked.

How can humans protect them? Scientists have already started some things which they hope will help in the reproduction much quicker and won’t affect the economy too much. They’ve made artificial habitats in labs (like zoos) and feed and take care of them.

Why should humans protect white abalone? If you love white abalone meat or jewellery, then you should protect white abalone. Otherwise think of the animals that eat white abalone...crabs, lobsters, octopuses, starfish and other fish.
