Good Morning, Greetings… A couple of weeks ago we discussed the (SLIDE) “Three S’s Of Christianity.” We looked at how “slavery, service, and spreading ‘God’s Word’ ” would spiritually guard us again evil (1 Peter 1:10). As we discussed then there is unfortunately a misconception today, sometimes even in the brotherhood. That misconception is that we can have a “Savior” without a “Lord.” The truth is, however, that we must have both a “Savior & Lord.” (SLIDE)
Savior & Lord One is not possible without the other. They go hand-in-hand. With this in mind let us examine this truth. (SLIDE)
Savior There is little to no doubt by most that Jesus is their Savior. After all it is Jesus that is called such since He was born (Luke 2:11).
Luke 2:11 “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Jesus as Savior couldn’t be denied by those that saw this proven out (Jn 4:42).
John 4:42 “They said to the woman, ‘It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.’ ” The Bible leaves no doubt that Jesus is indeed everyone’s Savior!!1
2 Peter 1:1 “Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ” Brothers and sisters of many profess Jesus as the “Savior of the world” (1 John 4:14). (SLIDE)
1 John 4:14 “And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.” And rightfully so, they are in proclaiming Jesus as the “Savior of the world.” It isn’t that most people get this part wrong in their lives. They realize they need someone to “save” them. People realize they need someone greater themselves to help them “get saved” but that is where far too many stop in their relationship with Jesus. Most consider Jesus “their” Savior but not necessarily their Lord. (SLIDE)
Lord There are a few questions we must ask ourselves in order to determine if Jesus is really our Lord/Master.
Does Jesus Have Authority Over Your Life? Jesus has all authority do you seek His authority in everything (Matthew 28:18; Colossians 3:17).
Matthew 28:18 “And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.’ ”
Colossians 3:17 “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
Does Jesus Have Authority Over Your Life? Brothers and sisters do you honestly seek Jesus’ authority in everything you do? Is Jesus’ authority a priority to you? Does it consume your every thought and action? If it isn’t the case and your not striving to make that the case then Jesus does not have authority over your life and you have not made Him your Lord!!!
Does Jesus Have Power Over Your Life? Does Jesus move you to righteousness when sin creeps in? We all fall short of God’s glory from time to time (Romans 3:23).
Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”
1 John 1:10 “If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” The question is, does Jesus have the power over our lives enough to make us come back to Him when we fall (2 Corinthians 7:10-11).
2 Corinthians 7:10-11 “For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death. 11 For see what earnestness this godly grief has produced in you, but also what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what zeal, what punishment! At every point you have proved yourselves innocent in the matter.” (SLIDE)
Does Jesus Have Power Over Your Life? Brothers and sisters does Jesus actually have “power” over your life? Does the sheer thought of “all” sin you commit make you cringe? Does the thought of crucifying Jesus over and over because of your sin (Hebrews 6:6) make you sick to your stomach? If it doesn’t and your not seeking to make it so then Jesus doesn’t have power over your life and He isn’t your Lord!!!
Does Jesus Have Control Over Your Life? Do you want others to see you as someone other than Jesus? Paul was clear when he stated we have died and Christ should be in our stead (Galatians 2:20).
Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” We must grasp the concept that it is no longer us but Christ that lives. That means putting the flesh away for the spirit (Romans 7:21-8:2).
Romans 7:21-8:2 “So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. 22 For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, 23 but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members…
…24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin…
…8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.”
Does Jesus Have Control Over Your Life? Brethren does Jesus have complete control over your life or not? Does the world control you or does Jesus? Are you living as you or are you hidden in Jesus? If the flesh is winning more than the spirit and your are not striving to correct that then Jesus is not your Lord!!!
Savior & Lord Brothers and sisters Mahatma Gandhi once said, “I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”1 We have a responsibility to be “Christ-like” in our life. Question: Are you striving to make Jesus not only your Savior but also your Lord?
