Welcome to 2017-2018 Curriculum & Expectations Night Mrs. Hodys 5th Grade Rm 239

A little about me… Bachelors Degree-Southern Illinois University 4th year in district, 1st year fifth grade teacher Goal: encourage students to become life long learners, no matter how difficult a task is, never give up, keep trying, stay positive Together we CAN make a difference 

Discipline Policy PBIS – Positive behavior = PAWS (can be used to purchase items in the pawmart Following rules/procedures will result in following rewards: verbal praise, participation in end of the year activities, constructive learning, various activities throughout the year(i.e. assembly participation) Consequences that can occur are as follows: verbal warning, loss of intramurals, detention(s), phone call(s) home, a conference with the teacher, change of seat, referral, and/or visit to the office. Please read the Summit Hill 161 Handbook for important information regarding district/school rules and procedures. (It can also be accessed on the website)

Assignment/Class work Policy *Parents will be notified about missing/incomplete assignment(s) through a Walker Missing/Incomplete Notice. **Assignments must be turned in the NEXT SCHOOL DAY, and will be marked as late. If the assignment is not turned in the next day, the assignment will be marked as a missing/incomplete assignment. **Incomplete/Missing Assignment Notice must be returned with parent signature along with completed assignment. If student has completed assignment, but does not have signed slip, student will sit out of intramurals until slip is returned to school.  **Three (3) incomplete/missing assignments will result in a lunch detention (minor). **Three (3) minors will result in a detention after school (major) and required attendance to after school Academic Assistance.

Some things around the room Interactive Book Shelf – encourage others to read different books Puzzle pieces – in this classroom we are a community, we come together to create a masterpiece of learning I’m done now what? – students who finish early can practice skills/strategies (math, reading, spelling) Job Board – teaching teamwork and encouraging responsibility
