Rules and Regulations of Rounders – unit 1 Identify rules of key game skills (P) Identify various rounders regulations (P) Describe the scoring system in rounders and how a result is found (P)

Recap Describe the difference between a rule and a regulation Rules are instructions that tell you what you are allowed to do and what you are not (in the playing area). They are not legally binding and tend to be able to be interpreted differently Regulations are legally binding and tend to be created by governing bodies (e.g. FIFA) and are core agreed rules. Simplifying it! A regulation defines the field in terms of size and location of goals and various spaces/pitches/courts (such as, for football, where the penalty zone needs to be placed), as well as how many players there should be and the size and nature of the ball and other equipment. A rule defines what needs to be done when something happens within that regulated space, or when something happens that is a violation of a regulation (use of an illegal ball or club in golf, or a banned swimsuit).

Lesson 2 Last lesson - Describe how you can score points in a rounders game and who would win. (5 way) Outcomes Describe the roles of the different umpires (P) Describe 4 basic game situations and explain the umpire’s decision (P) Describe 1 complex game scenario and fully explain the umpire’s decision (M)

Role of the Umpires (P) 2 Umpires Research and describe the role of each. You can do this using bullet points, prose, bubbles -to suit you! Please remember, that work cannot be taken directly from other sources

Basic rules and decisions (P) Create 4 game situations (rules) and describe the umpire’s decision E.g. Batter does not make contact with post 4 after hitting the ball and making it all the way round without stopping. Fielder then pods the post. Umpires decision – The fielder made contact with the base before the batter. This means they are out. EBI - As the batter doesn’t make contact with the base they have not completed the rounder. Therefore, as contact was made first by the fielder, the batter is out and cannot bat again in the same innings.

Describe 1 complex game scenario and fully explain the umpire’s decision (M) Batter 1 hits the ball and runs around towards third post where a fielder stumps it before the batter reaches it. Batter 1 then runs back to second post. In this situation the umpire should call batter 1 out and not award them any points. The umpire would be enforcing the rule that batters are not allowed to return to a post once they have ran past and are continuing onto the next post, and that by stumping the third post before the batter reached it the fielder stumped batter 1 out. The umpire would not award the half point for reaching second post after hitting the ball as the batter was called out. To meet the criteria for a Merit grade you will need to create your own scenario and provide an explanation of the rules the umpire would apply and any decisions that they would make.

Observation Independently design an observation checklist that can be used to review your own performance (strengths and areas for improvement) (P) Review own performance. Describe strengths and areas for improvement (own performance) (P) Explain reasons why skills are strengths or areas for improvement and recommend activities (drills/fitness sessions etc) to improve own performance (M) Analyse strengths or areas for improvement and justify why recommended activities (drills etc) will improve own performance (D)

Observation continued You can use a: Tally from what you can remember from the game (focussed on skills) Ratings (e.g. out of 10, or out of 20) Opinion (poor/below average/average/good etc) To achieve the higher grades you must explain the impact of the strengths and weaknesses on performance (individual/team)

Merit v Distinction One of my strengths was I hit the ball ¾ times. This shows a good level of accuracy of hitting. One bat I hit the ball out into the deep field where no one was stood so it took them longer to get the ball. The reason I kept hitting the ball was because I stood side on which enabled me to get a better view of the ball and hit it further. One of my strengths in rounders is the short underarm throw. I can use this skill effectively the majority of the time around 8/10 times in a game situation. I can apply pace to the ball so it can get to its destination quickly. I have good accuracy to throw the ball to the player where it needs to go. Doing this I can get batters running out quickly. As well as this, I can apply pressure to the other team. Doing a fast and accurate throw can get batters who are running out so that they cannot improve on their score. This means that I can help my team fielding and make it easier for us when we are batting so that my team has a good chance of winning the game. I use this skill to my advantage by standing in a place which I think the ball has a good chance of coming over from the batter

Support and things to avoid Merit – must explain – use ‘because’. E.g My high catching needs to improve because….. (e.g. I drop 5/10 high catching meaning the opponents have a greater chance to score….) Distinction – Analyse (e.g. I drop 5/10 high catching meaning the opponents have a greater chance to score….. My high catching needs improving as I fail to cup my hands meaning, or I don’t cushion the catch/ball meaning….) Things to avoid Sentences that go on and on and on and on. Use full stops, commas There (a place), Their (person) Using the word ‘bad’ - a negative aspect, needs improving, is poor Using the word ‘thing’ – what does this mean??? Writing the word ‘u’. It is not a text or What’s app

Learning outcomes: Describe the technical demands of Rounders. Describe the tactical demands of Rounders. Criteria: Describe the technical and tactical demands of two selected sports (2B.P4)

Technical and tactical demands Technical demands Tactical demands Batting Batting order Bowling Bowling (using a variety) Catching Positions of fielders Underarm throw Decision making in the field Overarm throw Long barrier fielding Select 2 of the above technical demands, and 2 of the above tactical demands and complete a worksheet to describe these demands in the sport of rounders. Technical = how the skill is performed – so how does a performer actually complete the long barrier – what do they physically do?

Example – Technical Long Barrier The long barrier technique is used to ….. To do a long barrier successfully, you must position your body in line with the path of the ball, position your body side on, with…………..

Tactical Batting order The batting order allows teams to order their team 1-9 to allow the stronger batters to bat first. As an innings has 20 good balls, only the first 2 batter’s are guaranteed 3 hits if all stay in. A team might also have left and right handers meaning…….
