Sample Argumentative Paragraph For the claim: I believe any missed school days should be made up during Spring Break.

Counterargument and Rebuttal Some may argue cancelling scheduled days off during spring break is unfair to those who planned to travel during that time. However, this only affects a few families, and parents would still be able to pull their child out of school if they already have plans.

The Writer’s Argument For most students, this week would not interfere with any vacation plans. In fact, many parents have to use vacation days at work to stay home with children during cancellations.

Text Support In The Detroit News article “Snow Cancellations Coming Across the State,” Reba McCaullif, a mother of two students adds, “With all this time off, I’m concerned about how to provide day care for my kids as we work through the rest of the winter.”

Commentary(Reasoning) This parent is not alone, and the work schedules for these parents are important. Adding days during the spring break week will not be unfair to the majority of people, and could actually help many parents.
