What is SPQ3R? Survey Predict Question Read Recite Review

Survey Look for information in the title, author name, chapter headings, and illustrations to get ideas of what you are about to read.

Predict Imagine what the selection will be about. (based on the survey you did)

Question Ask what you want to find out as you read.

Read Read for understanding – keep your questions and predictions in mind.

Recite Tell or write about what you learned from reading.

Review Look back at the predictions you made, the questions you asked, the answers you found, and the information you learned.

SPQ3R can help you understand a selection before, during, and after reading it.
