Construction Risk Assessments Plus Vol. II 9 HSE Construction Blitz As most in the construction industry are aware, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are continuing their strategy of high profile audits and inspections of construction sites The June 2003 a HSE Construction blitz stopped work on 332 sites due to unsafe working practices (improvement notices were also served on another 75!) More recently in June 2006, work was stopped 17 times on just 19 sites visited by the HSE, this clearly illustrates the poor standards of health and safety that are present on many sites and the hardening stance of the HSE inspectors Working at height, manual handling and workplace transport are key areas being targeted by HSE Construction Inspectors
