Group Oral Presentation on Engineering Disciplines Long Term Assignment – 1

Group Oral Presentation Overview Assignment: Research an engineering discipline and present your findings to the class in a ten minute oral presentation. Goal: Every student in the class should learn about all of the disciplines studied. This is an introduction to the team project that students will be doing – Oral Presentation on an Engineering Discipline. Students will have several weeks to complete the assignment and should be working on it steadily. A handout with details on the assignment follows this presentation. The Oral Presentation Handout Contains: Objective, Assignments Overview, Overall Grading, Timeline, and detailed descriptions of all the assignments including suggestions, hints, and the scheme used to evaluate each. Student teams should learn everything they can about the engineering discipline assigned to them and one of their main goals should be to convey that information to their classmates. Students are helping each other make future career decisions. Long Term Assignment - 1

Oral Presentation Assignments Choose discipline (5 pts.) Research Review Meeting (10 pts.) Outline of Oral Presentation (25 pts.) Draft of Oral Presentation (25 pts.) Final Handout (50 pts.) Give Oral Presentation (100 pts.) Actual Presentation (90/100 pts.) Final Presentation Slides (5/100 pts.) Final List of References (5/100 pts.) The parts of the long term assignment and the points awarded for each part are shown on this slide. Long Term Assignment - 1

Oral Presentation Approximate Timeline (Check syllabus for actual due dates) Week 2: Oral Presentation described in class; disciplines assigned to lab groups Weeks 2-3 : Research your discipline; conduct- interviews; create preliminary reference list; summarize your research into key content areas;

Oral Presentation Approximate Timeline (Check syllabus for actual due dates) Week 4: Meet with your instructor to conduct a review of your research progress Week 5: Outline of oral presentation is due Week 10: Draft of Oral Presentation Due Week 12: Give oral presentation; provide copy of slides, final reference list, and final handout

Assignment (contd.) Review the Oral Presentation Project handout. As a group, choose 3 disciplines from the list provided. Your instructor will then assign each group a discipline based on choices and first-come, first-served basis. One representative from each group is to send you an email with their choice… ask them to send a first and a second choice. When assigning disciplines, do not assign more than two groups to one discipline. The following is a list of disciplines the students can choose from: Aeronautical/Astronautical Aviation Ceramic Chemical Civil Environmental Computer & Information Science Electrical & Computer Engineering Mechanics Engineering Physics Food, Ag, & Bio Geodetic & Surveying Geomatics Industrial Systems Materials Science Mechanical Metallurgical Nuclear Welding Long Term Assignment - 1
