Flooding Rains Storms that produce flooding rains are similar to storms that produce rainy days. However, rains that cause floods are either very intense (thunderstorms), long lasting, or both. Thus, the storm is usually not moving very fast and the warm front becomes a stationary front. If the flooding rains are associated with a tropical system then there are no fronts but the storm is either very intense, slow moving, or both. L
