However, before you begin this activity, you must locate a song or short reading passage. Play the song or read the passage you selected for students, inviting them to practice active listening. Direct students to Student Workbook: Active Listening: The 5 Ws and H. Ask students to think about the song or passage they just heard and complete the worksheet to see how well they listened. If time permits, students are to draw something that they heard on the bottom of the page.
