Learning Respect and Honor B.A.S.I.C. Training

Rude, Crude and Socially Unacceptable What is socially acceptable changes with time. What are some ways of being respectful that are changing? Respecting others is a Bible subject. What do we need to know about being respectful of others?

The Bible Speaks About Respect Leviticus 19:32 -- " 'Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the LORD.’” How do we show respect and honor for our elderly – or just those who are older than we are?

Proverbs 25:6 Do not exalt yourself in the king's presence, and do not claim a place among great men… We are to respect and honor our leaders and those in high positions.

We are to respect our parents:

Exodus 20:12 -- "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.” Ephesians 6:2 -- "Honor your father and mother"—which is the first commandment with a promise…”

We are to respect one another in Christ: Romans 12:10 -- Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Philippians 2:3 -- Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

We are to respect the poor and therefore honor God Proverbs 14:31 -- He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker,        but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.

Respect for others begins with humility: Romans 12:3 -- For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.

Philippians 2:3-4 -- Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Romans 13:7 -- Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

We must respect and honor one another as… 1 Corinthians 12:14ff, Each is placed in the body by God God has placed them according to His will The least presentable of us should receive the greatest honor to strengthen the body.

The Greatest Honor Belongs to God Leviticus 10:3 -- Moses then said to Aaron, "This is what the LORD spoke of when he said:        " 'Among those who approach me        I will show myself holy;        in the sight of all the people        I will be honored.' "       Aaron remained silent. God is honored because of His holiness

Exodus 20:7 -- "You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. God’s name is not to be used in a vain, careless way. God’s name is to be held in honor and used only respectfully.

Isaiah 29:13 -- The Lord says:        "These people come near to me with their mouth        and honor me with their lips,        but their hearts are far from me.        Their worship of me        is made up only of rules taught by men. We must honor God in more than just words.

Malachi 1:6 -- "A son honors his father, and a servant his master Malachi 1:6 -- "A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?" says the LORD Almighty. "It is you, O priests, who show contempt for my name...” God deserves our honor and respect because He is our eternal Father.

1 Timothy 1:17-- Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen. God is King. We honor Him. God is eternal. We honor Him. God is immortal. We honor Him. God is invisible. We honor Him. God is One. We honor Him forever and ever. AMEN!
