Figure 1 The Establishment and Maintenance of DNA Methylation in Arabidopsis Establishment and maintenance of DNA methylation at different sequence contexts in Arabidopsis is controlled by different pathways and requires targeting by the RNAi machinery as well as by histone modifications. Modes of maintenance of DNA methylation differ in that the inheritance of CG methylation can be coupled to DNA replication, independent of siRNAs and histone modifications.
