This week, we will begin our investigation of single-step word problems, containing numbers 0-20. Inquiry into Literacy: We will share several non-fiction and fiction texts related to apples. We will create a top-down topic web to capture some interesting facts about apples and will also use this web to write a detailed report about them as well! We will study Letterland Unit 3: Sorting words according to rhyme patterns –in, -ix, and –ick and –th digraph is introduced. We will have our test on Friday. Writer’s Workshop: We will spend some time this week writing our reports about apples. Our work on developing our Narrative Writing piece will continue. This week, we will brainstorm our best ideas that a first grader could write about! Inquiry into Science: We will continue our unit of study on Rocks and Minerals. We will be exploring the properties of rocks. Camp First Grade Email: www.iss.k12.nc.us/coddlecreek Phone: (704) 439-4077 Around the Campfire Your children should be bringing home the results of their Spelling Tests each week. We would ask that you look over the results and continue to practice at home, any words that they could not accurately read or write. Please make note of the words that they should be reviewing, located at the bottom of the Spelling List that comes home each Friday, too!!! Look for your child's Progress Report to come home next Thursday. This report details the specific results of your child's M-Class testing as well as Math assessments given on the standards that we have covered so far. PYP Corner Our Current Unit of Study: How We Organize Ourselves/Central Idea: Procedures help organize us and give us structure Lines of Inquiry: How we resolve conflict/Importance of rules and consequences/Ways we are organized Let’s Take Action: Hurricane Florence certainly has caused much devastation to our beautiful coast and some inland areas as well.
