Based on the results of the assessment, at Nova Academy we have great assessment tools to increase our students academics skills. I-Station and Study Island help with Reading strategies. Go Math and STAAR Ready are helpful tools to build math skills. Teachers will continue to monitor and evaluate students progress throughout the year. Once again, thanks parents for your support at home as well as at school. Remember to check backpacks each day for homework and other important information. Ms. Washington, M.Ed.- Curriculum Director P.E./Health- K-3 November is saying no to Cigarettes and Tabaco month. Students will learn about smoking and what it does to their bodies, if they choose to smoke. Students will express to smokers that they should kick the habit of smoking cigarettes. A special note from the teachers!  Greeting 1A Parents and Guardians, Reading we will be practicing summarizing and visualizing; identifying the main idea and details; and retelling a story. We will also continue Identifying letter-sound correspondence, practicing decoding words and increasing our knowledge of sight words to improve reading fluency. Language Arts we will learn about sentence punctuation, singular and plural and proper nouns. Spelling we will word sort with short o, short e and short u, s blends and r blends. As always thank you for your continued support. Ms. McDowell  1B Greetings parents and students! Math we will continue to learn about hundreds, tens, and ones. We will, also, be learning about greater than, less than, and adding. Social Studies we are learning about the government and voting. Science we are learning about science tools and how scientists work. Ms. Felts 2A Greetings Parents, Reading- reviewing while testing for the Reading 3D Math- Review Problem solving and place Value ELA- Punctuation and Capitalization Nouns and Verbs, Reading: Main Idea, Characters, and setting Science Science Tools, and Matter, Social Studies- Being A Good Citizen, Needs and Wants. Ms. Carson 3A Grade Math We are learning multiplication tables, skip counting a number line, long and short division. Reading We will read Charlotte’s Web and have lively discussions in our book club. I will introduce Tiger Rising, a Listening book during the last half of the six weeks. We will continue with spelling, vocabulary, science and social studies. Art We painted pumpkins; we are excited about the fall festival.   Sincerely,    Mrs. McLaurin ESL Mr. Bryan Pre-K: A, B, and C Hello Parents, ELA -the Pre-K students are working hard on our writing, we are practicing letters Aa, Cc, Bb, Dd and Gg. Science we will be learning about the different ways we use water. Please continue to help with the writing and we will get there  Pre-K Team KA Greetings parents, Math-KA is practicing counting and modeling numbers 6-8 using two-color counters where one color gives them one of the numbers to make 6 and another color gives them the second number that when counted together gives the 6. Reading the students are learning that a story has structure and a pattern. Language-the students are learning and practicing the sounds of A and M. Ms. Boyd KB Science-we are studying problems and solutions, Matter, and solids, liquids, and gases. Reading- we are learning high frequency words and Adding new words to our word wall ELA- we are writing our high frequency words. Ms. Shead KC Greeting Parents, Math- we are reviewing and recognizing the numbers 1-100; we are also working with patterns. Reading- learning phonics and more sight words: adding new words, to our word wall every week. ELA- writing simple sentences and using words from our word wall. Social Studies & Science-learning about location, observation, solving problems, and ways to improve our world. Ms. Taylor
