The Eurostat Advent Calendar - A successful tool for humanising senior management UNECE Work Session on the Communication of Statistics 27-29 May 2013 Berlin, Germany Philippe Bautier & Tim Allen

The issue Senior management often seen as remote from staff in big institutions Mainly known through their professional communication: Minutes of meetings Decisions taken by the Board Publication of their speeches

A new idea Reduce distance between senior management and staff by showing their personal face Take advantage of the relaxed atmosphere of the run up to Xmas The Eurostat advent calendar – an "item" to be opened each working day in December

The entries The ten senior managers each agreed to provide a short personal or professional anecdote or a piece of fiction. Including a six part Eurostat murder mystery from one director!

Impact Well received by colleagues Senior managers happy with the experience Already thinking about 2013, maybe wider range of submissions?
