Direct Instruction

Technology In groups of four, go around the classroom taking pictures of solids, liquids, and gases. Make sure you have at least three of each.

Art Find pictures from magazines that are solids, liquids, and gases. Cut the pictures out. Create a separate collage for each state of matter.

Dramaturgical Devices In groups of three, draw a card from my charades hat. Each card will either have a solid, liquid, or gas. Use what you have learn to help you act it out.

Reading Choose a book from our matter collection. After you have made your choice find a place and begin reading silently.

Viewing As a class, we will watch a video over the states and properties of matter. discovery

Ice Cube Activity (Viewing, speaking, and listening) The teacher will give each student group an ice cube. The teacher will then make squares on the sidewalk with chalk. The students will place their ice cube in a square and write their initials. In pairs, the students will observe, record, and discuss the states of matter the ice cube goes through.
