17th LARES Conference, São Paulo, Brazil September 14-15, 2017 IRES PANEL ‘The crisis and the housing curriculum’ Martin Hoesli, University of Geneva (Moderator) Alex Abiko, University of São Paulo Steven C. Bourassa, Florida Atlantic University Paloma Taltavull, University of Alicante Steve Williams, Real Capital Analytics

Question 1 Do new tools need to be taught? More emphasis on some topics (mortgage finance, bubble detection methods, etc.)? Have some changes already taken place? Has research on the crisis fed into our teaching?

Question 2 Should housing be taught in real estate programs only? In finance programs? In economics programs?

Question 3 If the curriculum had been different would this have softened the crisis? Moving forward, will we be better the next time around?

Question 4 Are regulatory authorities more to blame than educators? Who else is to blame?

Thank you!
