SADI SOUTHEAST ALTERNATIVE FUEL VEHICLE DEMONSTRATION INITIATIVE Sustainable Fleet Technology Conference Raleigh Convention Center Friday, October 13th

Welcome Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of the Sustainable Fleet Technology Conference. We are excited to be here to share information on the SADI Program, our role in the Program, and the experiences we had during the Program. The Southeast Alternative Fuel Vehicle Demonstration Initiative (SADI) is carrying out a multi-fuel, multistate vehicle demonstration program complete with vehicles, driver education, and marketing strategies to help incorporate alternative fuels into new fleets and industry sectors in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Partnering Agencies

SADI Program Details Started in Spring of 2016 and was completed in the Summer of 2017. Alliance AutoGas worked with each Partner, in their area, for a period of 3 months. Alliance AutoGas provided 3 bi-fuel Propane AutoGas powered vehicles to each area during the Program.

SADI Program Intent Educate and inform all involved in the fleet industry to the benefits of alternative fuels. In our case it was propane autogas. Our test drives included the follow departments, services, and businesses: (1) Law Enforcement (2) Transportation (3) Service & Delivery. Test drives averaged about 10 to 14 days

Vehicles Provided by Alliance AutoGas 2015 Ford Transit Van (Transit and/or Service/Delivery) 2015 Ford Explorer Interceptor Law Enforcement Edition 2015 Ford F-150 Pickup Truck These vehicles featured various fuel tank options.

SADI Program in Action A contact was made through one of the Partners or our staff at Alliance AutoGas At the introductory meeting we covered the following details of the SADI Program Introduction of bi-fuel propane autogas powered vehicles Safety, refueling, and maintenance of the vehicle During the test drive, we provided a combination of refueling options during the SADI Program: (1) Some fleets would come by one of our branch facilities to refuel. This was pre-arranged and we provided the propane autogas. (2) Some would refuel at existing facilities in their area, or (3) If needed, we had a propane autogas delivery truck come to the fleet’s site to refuel the vehicle. A SADI Program “Drivers Information Sheet” was placed in each demonstration vehicle. This was a simple form with a column for name and e-mail. At the completion of the test drive period the Information Sheets would be collected as part of a follow-up meeting with each fleet’s drivers and staff. The contact specifics from the Information Sheet was used to follow up with each driver and encourage them to complete a brief online survey. The survey feedback was a key element in the SADI Program.

Program Highlights Number of facilities that were part of the SADI Program: 72 Number of test drives during the SADI Program: 300 + Number of participating fleets with an alternative fuel program: Approximately 25 Number of participating fleets currently reviewing an alternative fuel program: Approximately 24

Summary The SADI Program provided a valuable opportunity, for Alliance AutoGas and the other involved Partners, to educate a significant number of companies and individuals on the benefits of an alternative fuel, such as propane autogas. SADI helped some fleets, already using an alternative fuel, to confirm and/or expand their program, thanks to their exposure to the newest technology associated with the various alternative fuel vehicles included. SADI helped some fleets to determine which alternative fuel is the best for the applications within their fleet. SADI helped some fleets begin considering an alternative fuel program for the very first time. In the future, Alliance AutoGas and our SADI Partners will continue to provide education, demonstration, implementation and assistance for those who participated in the program.
