George Washington’s Grave Danger Political Parties

George Washington favored the Economic policies of Alexander Hamilton – therefore making him partisan. Jefferson was so unhappy that he resigned as secretary of State.

Federalists – Alexander Hamilton Believed that ordinary people should not become too involved in politics. Believed that educated men of property would protect everyone's rights. Ordinary people would be too likely swayed.

Democratic-Republicans – Thomas Jefferson Feared a strong central government Controlled by a few people. They believed Liberty would only be safe if ordinary People participated in government.

Federalists Favored: Rule by the Wealthy Class Strong Federal Government Emphasis on Manufacturing Loose interpretation of the Constitution British Alliance National Bank Protective Tariffs

Democratic Republicans favored : Rule by the people Strong State Government Emphasis on Agriculture Strict Interpretation of the Constitution French Alliance State Banks Free Trade
